Japanese tabloids' reports of tourist sex habits 'vent anti-Chinese feeling'

Reports about the supposed sexual habits of Chinese tourists and the problems they are causing in Japan's red-light districts have been dismissed as simply another way for the tabloids here to belittle the Chinese.

In China, sex workers' lack of legal protection fans police abuse

One recent afternoon, 10 "working girls" gathered in a northern Chinese city at the offices of a non-governmental organisation, one of the few in the country that has dedicated itself to helping female sex workers. The women, mostly in their middle to late 30s, chatted away as they enjoyed a rare break from their daily grind at massage or beauty parlours.

Brazilian virgin fetches US$780,000 at auction

A Brazilian student has sold her virginity in an online auction for US$780,000 as part of a documentary organised by an Australian filmmaker.

Catarina Migliorini, 20, was the subject of 15 bids, with a Japanese man named only as Natsu winning on Wednesday night.

Reports said Migliorini would be interviewed before and after losing her virginity at a secret location.

Six held over schoolgirl prostitution ring

Six people, including three businessmen, have been arrested in Zhejiang province over a prostitution ring involving school girls who were recruited to provide sex to officials and rich clients.

Yongkang police said yesterday they launched a crackdown on the ring last month and 10 people had been implicated, including a municipal legislator.

Police are scrambling to overcome a gap in the law that stops them prosecuting people who use internet forums and smartphone apps to solicit compensated dates.

Compensated dating is a form of prostitution in which the buyer and the seller first go on a date before having sex in return for money or gifts.
