Prawn to be wild

Officials from Guangdong release red tail prawn fry into Sha Chau and Lung Kwu Chau Marine Park, near Tuen Mun, in a drive to restock resources.

Five people including a five-year-old girl suffered minor injuries during a one-day China Travel Service tour to see Chinese white dolphins. The yacht they were on struck a pier on Sha Chau at about 4pm. A man, three women and the girl were slightly hurt when the impact knocked them off their feet. They were treated at Tuen Mun Hospital.

Pirates escape with $30,000

Four masked pirates - one armed with a pistol and the other three with axes and a knife - stole $30,000 from an oil barge last night. The pirates boarded the barge off Sha Chau, Tuen Mun, threatened two men and a woman on board and escaped on a sampan. Marine police searched the area but could not trace the sampan.

Survivor of sea tragedy guilt-ridden

A student who saw two friends swept to their deaths from a sandbar off Sha Chau, Tuen Mun, spoke yesterday of his vain efforts to save them.

Liu Cheuk-yin, 19, a student at a Vocational Training Council college, said he, Mak Koon-man, 20, and Chan Yan-chuen, 19, had been sitting on the sandbar and chatting at about 10am on Sunday.

Tragedy strikes friends on sandbar

A young man drowned yesterday and another was missing after they and another friend were swept off a sandbar they had waded out to.

An eight-hour search for the missing man, aged 20, was called off at nightfall and would resume this morning, marine police said.

Fatal sea plunge

A 50-year-old worker died after he fell into the sea while working aboard a barge at Sha Chau, off Tuen Mun, last night. Divers brought the man, surnamed Chan, ashore but he was pronounced dead at Tuen Mun Hospital.

A Hong Kong oil-barge skipper said he was injured in a scuffle with mainland marine police who boarded his vessel in waters off Hong Kong.
