Another blaze breaks out on Por Lo Shan

A hill fire broke out on Tuen Mun's Por Lo Shan at about 1.40pm yesterday, burning some 2,500 square metres of land. Firefighters called in Government Flying Service helicopters to water-bomb the flames, and the fire was put out at about 4pm.

Slow-drive over increased parking fees

About 10 drivers held a go-slow protest yesterday against the planned increase in parking fees at a number of Ma On Shan car parks operated by Link Management. The protesters, led by the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, drove slowly from Ma On Shan to the Link offices in Wong Tai Sin to hand over a petition.

Arrest after window fell

A window fell from a 19th floor flat at Lok Yan House in Tsz Lok Estate in Tsz Wan Shan. No one was injured. Police arrested the flat owner, a 44-year-old man, who said the window came loose as he was trying to close it.

Three hikers were airlifted to Eastern Hospital after they fell more than 10 metres in Ma On Shan yesterday. One sustained head injuries and was in a critical condition and the others were stable.

At least 16 villagers were robbed by two men armed with knives who launched a midnight raid on the remote Lin Fa Shan village on Tai Mo Shan. Two people were hurt.

Women 'hit in disc row'

Two 24-year-old women were reportedly beaten by a shopkeeper after they tried to exchange two video compact discs at a store in Shan Tung Street, Mongkok.

The pair had complained that the VCDs were pirated and did not work. They were later discharged from Kwong Wah Hospital.

Doctors at Tang Shiu Kin Hospital were battling to save the life of Lee Kim-ying, 81, who fell four floors from a building in Shan Kwong Garden, Shan Kwong Road, Happy Valley. He landed on a car.
