A Shandong man who claimed to have electrocuted an alien before storing it in his freezer admitted he had faked the story.

The men said the angry owner had asked them to destroy the 2.6-million-yuan (HK$3.3 million) sport-sedan in protest against “poor sales service” he received from a Qingdao dealership, where he bought the Maserati.

25-year-old Shandong town mayor resigns over allegations of nepotism

A 25-year-old town mayor in Shandong resigned on Sunday along with her father, the head of a municipal department, after her meteoric rise through the ranks was cut short by allegations of nepotism, Xinhua reported.

But the simultaneous resignations did not conclude the matter as Jining city discipline inspection authority said it would continue to investigate the allegations.

According to Chinese media reports, the city has spent 4 billion yuan (HK$4.92 billion) on a new office building that ranks as the world’s second-largest individual architecture by floor area.

Foxconn flouts labour law with under-16 interns in Shandong

Foxconn Technology has admitted that interns as young as 14 have been found working at a subsidiary in Yantai, Shandong province. "Our investigation has shown that the interns in question, who ranged in age from 14 to 16, had worked in that campus for approximately three weeks," Foxconn said yesterday. "This is not only a violation of China's labour law, it is also a violation of Foxconn policy and immediate steps have been taken to return the interns in question to their educational institutions."

14 dead, 40 hurt in Shandong as bus rolls trying to avoid another accident

At least 14 people were killed when an overloaded coach swerved to avoid an accident and crashed into a ditch alongside a highway in Shandong province yesterday - the last day of the eight-day national holiday.

Recounting his daring escape from house arrest, blind activist Chen Guangcheng - on his hospital bed in Beijing - said he still could not believe his luck.

'I believe God was helping me,' he told the South China Morning Post by phone.

'It was nerve-racking ... I am not affiliated with any religion, but I believe divine power exists.'
