Sharp shares up on Intel deal report

Sharp shares jumped on a reported Intel stake sale.

Shares in Sharp, Japan's largest maker of liquid-crystal displays, rose the most in more than two months in Tokyo after Kyodo News said the company was in final talks to sell a stake to Intel.

Sharp forecasts drop in profit amid turmoil

Sharp Corp is the latest of Japan's electronic giants to announce it has been badly hurt by the country's economic downturn.

Sharp's share price fell 5.8 per cent yesterday after it said its consolidated profits for the half-year to September would fall 88 per cent to 2.5 billion yen (about HK$143.06 million).

Firm looked 'sharp' and beat recession

ELECTRICAL goods manufacturer Sharp Brave Holdings has won the Certificate of Merit Award from the Trade Development Council (TDC) for beating the recession by increasing its overseas sales.

Since it was set up in the early 1980s, Sharp has concentrated on the design, manufacture and marketing of calculators, hand-held electronic games and translators.
