The 'Dream Team' of Douglas Whyte and John Size looks set to give Triple Trio players a walk-up start to a HK$20 million windfall at Sha Tin on Friday with Shining Triumph and John Dory looking banker material in the first two legs.

BOOK (1977)

The Shining Stephen King (Doubleday)

Never one to stay out of the spotlight's eerie glow for long, horror writer Stephen King plans a sequel to his novel turned Stanley Kubrick box office hit, The Shining.

10 Jan 2010 - 12:00am

Shining through

FOR THOSE who don't know any better, The Shining is NOT the original movie soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick's horror classic of the same title, but a new British band made up of ex-Verve members Simon Jones and Simon Tong.

Wong pair full of promise for season's last two months

EMERGING local trainer Wylie Wong looks set for a decent end to the season if yesterday's Sha Tin trackwork session is anything to go by.

Wong's youngsters Five Stars Shining and Aly Baba worked together through a very serious piece and both are worth following over the concluding two months of the campaign.

I was greatly heartened to read the story in Friday Focus (South China Morning Post, March 14), relating to Don Bozarth's brave struggle to come back and emerge victorious after sustaining crippling injuries in an accident in 1992.

Don Bozarth is a shining example of the triumph of the human spirit over seemingly insurmountable odds.

Jack's evil spell

JACK Nicholson's performance in The Shining (Pearl, 9.30pm) is over-the-top; a precursor to his even more over-the-top performance as The Joker in Batman. He has rolling eyes, hyperactive eyebrows and by the end of the film - based none too carefully on Stephen King's novel - he is lurching around like some B-movie Quasimodo.

8 Nov 1994 - 12:00am

The madness of Jack's shining

THERE is not a whole lot happening on the tube tonight, but if you are determined to stay at home for the evening then Pearl will be showing one of Jack Nicholson's most disturbing performances in The Shining (9.30pm. Original Running Time 114 mins).

29 Dec 1993 - 12:00am

Jack catches cabin fever

WHAT a Friday night: Cartoon beefcake He-Man comes to life in Masters of the Universe on Pearl, while on World Jack Nicholson goes stark, raving mad - again - in The Shining.

Best bet is to turn to STAR Plus which is starting a promising-looking TV series adaptation of James Plunkett's fine book Strumpet City (8 pm).
