Japanese alarm at wave of copycat shootings

A rise in the number of shootings in Japan has opened a new discussion on gun ownership - even though the weapons being fired are nothing more than air guns.

In the latest incident on Tuesday night, a 47-year-old man was arrested in the central Japanese town of Kyotanabe for repeatedly firing an air rifle at houses and cars.

Arms cache accomplice sentenced to 10 years in prison

A man found in joint possession of a cache of weapons including an assault rifle, two shotguns and six pistols was jailed for 10 years yesterday.

A jury found Ng Chun-keung guilty on Tuesday on one count of possessing arms and ammunition without a licence and not guilty of a charge of possessing explosives.

Gunmen seize $1.5 million

Three gunmen threatened security guards and snatched bags containing $1.5 million together with a shotgun from an armoured van outside the Liu Chong Hing Bank in Nathan Road, Mongkok, yesterday.

Shotgun discovered

Police yesterday found a shotgun in Tseung Kwan O which was believed to have been taken from a security van during a robbery in the area on April 10. A 35-year-old man spotted the gun in a garden at Ming Tak Estate and reported it to the police.
