Pakistan briefly unblocked access to YouTube yesterday before Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf ordered the plug be pulled again. Ashraf had in September blocked the website after it refused to heed the government's call to remove a controversial anti-Islam video.

Tianjin authorities are conducting tests to identify a glue-like material apparently injected into frozen shrimps to increase their weight.

Mainland media have been abuzz with the latest food-safety scandal for the past week, with 'glue-injected' shrimps reported throughout Tianjin.

Cholera case confirmed

A woman, 31, has been confirmed to have cholera, the fourth case this year of the disease being contracted through the consumption of raw seafood. The woman, who lives in Tseung Kwan O, was admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital on Tuesday. She was in a stable condition yesterday.

OVERHEARD in a bar recently: Q: So who's this 'Shrimp' geezer who's left flyers all over town offering blokes membership of a club which entitles them to glossy pictures of 'Asian babes' and also information on 'fun spots' to visit around the region? A: Just some sad old hack trying to make a buck. Wouldn't give him the time of day if I were you.
