Half a century ago he was one of Hong Kong's top 10 barristers and a legislator. His wife was the first female judge on the mainland.

The couple, both 86, should be enjoying a comfortable retirement.

Exco to decide Shue Yan university status next week

Executive councillors will next week decide whether to rename Shue Yan College a university, as Hong Kong Institute of Education is struggling to gain the title.

Leung Tin-wai, head of Shue Yan's department of journalism and communication, confirmed Exco was due to discuss the retitling issue on Tuesday.

Mainland trip offers glimpse of heritage

A two-week trip to Beijing provided students of Shue Yan College with an opportunity to get a better understanding of the mainland.

This tour last month was made possible through a cultural exchange programme, 'Traditional and Modern China', organised by the Tsinghua University in Beijing and Shue Yan College.

Shue Yan library gets donation

SOME 4,200 books have been donated to the Shue Yan College library by China's State Education Commission and 19 mainland publishing corporations.

Chang Tianpao, vice-chairman of the State Education Commission, presented the books on behalf of chairman Zhu Kaixuan at a ceremony held at the college.
