A gay man who shrugged off three mafia plots to kill him is poised to become Sicily's first homosexual governor in elections that show the centre left advancing at the expense of Silvio Berlusconi's right-wing party.

A quaffer you can't refuse

Sicilian wines used to be considered too syrupy or strong. But in the 1980s, excellent chardonnay was produced in Sicily. Subsequently, quality wines were made from nero d'avola and other indigenous grapes that match Sicily's rich and varied food perfectly.

China expectant in Sicily

The fledgling China Team are poised to improve in the next pre-regatta of the Louis Vuitton challenger series for the America's Cup starting today in Trapani, Sicily, says team backer Wang Chao-yong.

Wang, who earlier announced China's maiden, $300 million bid for sport's oldest trophy, said the China Team could benefit from familiar waters and an upgraded boat.
