Silvestre de Sousa is happy to inherit the Group One Hong Kong Classic Mile ride on Pakistan Star and as Sunday’s race rolls around he is noticeably immune to the early season hype that surrounded the fan favourite.
Silvestre De Sousa is a Brazilian-born jockey who won his first Champion Jockey title in Britain in 2015. Beginning his career in Sao Paulo, he moved to Europe in 2002, but after two years based with Dermot Weld in Ireland in which he didn't ride, he moved to England where his career flourished. A career-best season in 2011 saw him retained by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum's Godolphin operation for three years, during which he won the Dubai World Cup, the Dubai Duty Free and the Champion Stakes. He began his first short-term Hong Kong stint in early 2016.
