'Worked back' rail given green light

The new 'worked back rail' on the troubled B Course at Happy Valley will have its raceday baptism at next Wednesday's meeting at the city track.

Racing officials, headed by the director of racing Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, met trainers after trackwork yesterday to discuss the arrangements and other pertinent topics.

Wendyll takes his injured pride to France

IT WASN'T the most comfortable afternoon for Wendyll Woods, but at least he has a trip to France to look forward to. Wendyll, who has had a superb first five weeks to his new Hong Kong career, parted company with topweight Big Treasure in the fourth event within a few metres of the start. Big Treasure leapt in the air as the gates opened and Woods lost one of his irons.

Yim in Jockey Club's bad books - and fined $10,000

Former champion apprentice Simon H. K. Yim has been fined $10,000 and a written reprimand placed on his record for bringing Hong Kong racing into disrepute. Yim walked out on English trainer Mark Tompkins before his stint with the Newmarket trainer was due to end, claiming that his mother was ill.

Yim comeback on hold

CHAMPION apprentice Simon H. K. Yim is out of Sunday's big Sha Tin meeting, writes Robin Parke. Yim, who was due to return after a five-meeting suspension and ride without a claim for the first time, injured a leg in a trackwork fall on Tuesday and is not fit to ride.

THE decision of the stipendiary stewards to suspend champion apprentice Simon H. K. Yim for five days at Sha Tin yesterday will be greeted with relief by a great many racing people deeply concerned about the recent standard of race-riding here. Yim's ban is overdue and the stewards have frankly acted only just in time to save their own wavering reputations.

Michael's Choice back on track for local turf's biggest prize

PATRICK Biancone's smart performer Michael's Choice (2-1 favourite) kept the Frenchman on top of the championship standings with a fluent success in the eighth event at Sha Tin yesterday. It also completed an excellent 24-1 winning double for crack stable apprentice Simon H. K. Yim who had won earlier on maiden All Happy who was winning at his 19th local attempt.
