Sporty luxe

Fashion is gearing up for the Olympics in London as designers take inspiration from the fast and furious world of sports for their spring-summer collections. Colourful athletic separates ruled the runways at Kenzo, and Alexander Wang's models sported mesh bombers and biker shorts with exposed zippers. Track pants also appeared at Lanvin, albeit a more elegant version.

Modern grecian

Femininity rules this spring as designers experiment with pleats, bringing to mind the work of French couturier Madame Gres. Instead of bulky silhouettes, the look is soft and streamlined, thanks to sheer fabric and precise knife-edge pleats. Miuccia Prada has pleated skirts, while other top trends include long, flowing dresses as spotted at Chloe, BCBG and Donna Karan.

To androgyny and beyond

With her boyish build, elfin face and super-short platinum hair, Eve Smith, aka DJ Eve Speciall, says she always gets the same comments. 'People come to me and say, 'You look exactly like Agyness Deyn,'' she says.

Smith resents the comparison. 'I'm usually burning from the inside because they say it like I'm some small-town Agyness Deyn wannabe.'

Wearing a bit of history

The cheongsam is a legendary fashion article, which highlights the feminine physique of its wearer.

Several schools have adopted the cheongsam as their uniform.

Originally, the cheongsam was the male version of a traditional clothing item that the Manchus popularised throughout the rest of China during the Qing Dynasty.
