Chinese skull study reveals ancestors had better oral health

Our ancient ancestors had better jaw alignment and less tooth decay because they ate more fibre-rich foods, while we eat more sugar and finer food, researchers have concluded after looking at skulls from 4,000 years ago.

Foul play ruled out in mysterious skull case

An initial investigation has ruled out foul play in the case of 121 skulls discovered last week in Gansu province , a senior public security official said yesterday.

The skulls were found abandoned with their crowns sawn off, and religious specialists said lamas were known to use skull caps as bowls or ceremonial artifacts.

DNA tests begin on 121 dumped skulls

A forensics expert has been sent to Lanzhou to confirm whether the 121 skulls discovered on a remote river bank in Gansu province belonged to humans or monkeys.

A source from the provincial Public Security Department's criminal investigation division said the expert arrived yesterday to conduct tests, including for DNA. Results were expected in weeks.

Uncovering the dirty truth

It all started the day they found the skull lying in the mud. They never knew what the tide would bring in, and that was why mudlarking was such great fun.

Reg and Jimmy are mudlarks. When the tide is out, they search the harbour's mud flats for objects brought in by the tide.
