iPhone4 imports banned after US agency ruling

A US trade agency has banned imports of Apple's iPhone 4 and a variant of the iPad 2 after finding the devices violate a patent held by South Korean rival Samsung Electronics.

Huawei Technologies and ZTE - China's biggest telecommunications equipment manufacturers - have been accused of patent infringement in a case filed by InterDigital with the United States International Trade Commission.

Apple has sought to add infringement claims over six more Samsung Electronics products, including the Galaxy Note II, to its multibillion-dollar patent lawsuit against the South Korea-based company.

A US judge has ordered Apple to disclose to rival Samsung Electronics details of a legal settlement the iPhone maker reached with Taiwan’s HTC, including terms of a 10-year patents licensing agreement.

An Apple lawsuit against Google’s Motorola Mobility unit over alleged patent abuse was thrown out on Monday just hours before trial, a setback for the iPhone maker in its efforts to gain leverage in the smartphone patent wars.
