A worrying note for China's bulbul songbirds

With soft steps, careful not to rustle any leaves or crack the twigs strewn about before her, Xing Xiaoying pursues the Light-vented Bulbul songbird and takes aim with her long, camouflaged microphone. This ornithologist is on the hunt for music.

May Sum, make-up artist and designer

What I'm listening to: I haven't bought any Canto-pop CDs for ages. But I recently grabbed Ivana Wong's The Songbird Anthology because I really like the opening track, The End of the World. Most songs on the album have great melodies and she really has her own style. I'm also listening to the new compilation Ladies First, which features a lot of classics by international female singers.

Sad but never depressing

Sophie Zelmani seldom appears on TV or gives interviews. But the shy Swedish singer-songwriter is no stranger to music lovers. Her latest album Memory Loves You is as refreshing and tender as ever.

The songbird has released six albums since her debut in 1995 with the single Always You, which featured on the soundtrack of My Best Friend's Wedding.

Show traces life of songbird Zhou Xuan

The full-length dance drama The Wandering Singsong Girl, premiered by the Hong Kong Dance Company in 1989, will be staged again this month to trace the life of Zhou Xuan, China's famed songbird and movie queen of the 1930s.
