After adopting the euro, the Spanish economy initially benefited from sharply lower interest rates, spurring a property bubble. However, with the onset of the global financial crisis, property prices collapsed, causing widespread layoffs, and pushing unemployment to more than 26 per cent by the end of 2012. Spain received a bank bailout from the European Central Bank in 2012.

Who started it?

Loewe was founded in Madrid, Spain, in 1876 by German immigrant Enrique Loewe Roessberg and a group of local Spanish craftsmen who had set up a leather workshop earlier in 1846.

In 1892, Roessberg opened the first 'E.Loewe' leather goods store and workshop on Madrid's prestigious Principe Street.

Magic carpet

Fancy your own indoor meadow? From the master of romantic floral design, Tord Boontje, comes the playful Little Field of Flowers collection of hand-loomed rugs, produced in conjunction with Spain's Nanimarquina company. The tendrils and leaves that adorn the surface not only look inviting, they are apparently soft and warm underfoot. Just don't think about the vacuuming.

on style, she rules

I was in Spain recently and a friend was wearing a divine musky perfume called Alyssa Ashley. I found some Laura Ashley scent but not the one I want.

Is it sold in Hong Kong or is it just a Spanish thing?

I hope it's not wildly expensive.

The use of violence in a bid to force concessions to political demands is abhorrent. Sadly, that has never prevented such action from occurring, even in societies that pride themselves on the rule of law. Nor has it stopped political movements identified with violence from tapping into sympathy for their causes at home and abroad.
