'Lucky' Leung ups his win tally and edges closer to pass mark

Trainer Andy Leung Ting-wah still has a way to go to reach his benchmark 13 wins for the season, but he did strike a blow with eight-year-old Speedy in the Class Five second event.

Game is not over for former Wong horses

The weight of owner expectation must be building on the trainers of horses like Flying Smart, Goldmen YY, Fulgurite, Pure Force, Presto, Conqueror, Winning Scholar, Telecom Gogo and even Mr Speedy.

Dragon to scorch rivals

A Class Five dash down the Sha Tin straight 1,000-metre chute is right up Speedy Dragon's street. The Francis Lui-trained six-year is taken to win this afternoon's opening event at the New Territories venue on a card which promises to throw up plenty of decent betting opportunities.

Speedy has legs for opener

Speedy Champion looks a worthwhile wager on a desperately tricky card at Happy Valley this afternoon.

The Australian-bred gelding represents the David Hayes-Basil Marcus trainer and jockey combination which has done so well with youngsters in these Class Four contests.

And this afternoon's opening event is no more than a common-or-garden Class Four affair.

Young and old send out warnings

The young and the old combined to catch the eye during yesterday's barrier trial session down Sha Tin's 1,000-metre chute.

The Geoff Lane-trained Fame And Fortune and Wylie Wong's Speedy Forward confirmed earlier trackwork impressions that they are markedly better than the form book suggests when they ran on into second in the third and fourth heats in this four-trial session.

Dragon fired up for repeat

Horses for courses is the byword when it comes to the dreaded dirt, which is why Speedy Dragon is taken to win tonight's opening event on Sha Tin's artificial surface.

Speedy Dragon was a revelation when sent out on the dirt for the first time by his new trainer Francis Lui for whom he was making his debut and seasonal reappearance.

Speedy can make amends

Former multiple champion Ivan Allan's team is racing into form and his well-named Speedy can deliver on some promising griffin efforts to post his breakthrough victory in tonight's Class Three final event. And he should be at better than each-way odds in what appears, on paper, to be a competitive end to proceedings at the city track.

Lui and Chin lead the way as homegrown talent shine

TRAINER Francis K.W. Lui had a career-best treble and rising star Stanley K.M Chin rode a double as racing's homegrown talent had their day in the Sha Tin sun yesterday.

Lui had every reason to smile broadly as New Asia Sage (12-1), the very smart Universal Winner (5-2 favourite) and 50-1 bottomweight Speedy Dragon all swept to impressive successes in their respective races.

Vantage Point good viewing

Vantage Point looked in tip-top condition as he worked under restraint alongside stablemate Regal Ridge yesterday morning.

It may have been New Year's Day and the morning after, but for the SAR's dedicated jockeys, trainers and racing personnel, it was just another day at the office.

Speedy to have last laugh

Every winner more or less counts double at this time of the season with the battle for riding and training supremacy likely to go to the wire.

The trainers' championship is particularly tight with John Moore slugging it out with defending champion Ivan Allan yesterday.

But in Speedy Fun, Allan appears to have an almost certain future winner.
