Squaring up to winter

DSquared2's autumn/winter 2008 collection for men incorporates sporty elements inspired by classic ski apparel. Mixing pieces such as puffer jackets and chunky knits with urban items such as dark trousers and skinny jeans, the collection relies on a colour palette of black and red with splashes of tartan print.

Carl Kapp

Who's behind it? Carl Kapp started his eponymous label in 2005 in Potts Point, a moneyed central suburb of Sydney, Australia. Before launching his label, South African-born Kapp worked for various international brands such as DKNY, Kenzo and Designroom. He was also in the running for the position of head menswear designer at Alexander McQueen, in London.

Shanghai surprise

Shanghai Tang is paying tribute to its namesake city. Its new fabrics are printed with images of Shanghai such as the Pudong skyline, the Oriental Pearl Tower and a monochromatic cloud-topped cityscape. The collection also includes traditional pieces embroidered with delicate chinoiserie-style birds and trees on printed lace and the brand's signature embroidered lotus.
