Cool as ice

Falling on the ice hurts. But the pain hasn't scared figure skater Harry Lee Hau-yin away from the sport. Falls encourage him to seek perfection in upcoming competitions.

Figure-skater finds happiness amid the romance of the rink

When I was growing up in the former Soviet Union in the 1980s, my mother was a figure-skater and I'd look at her dressed in her pretty costumes and think how I'd like to be like that.

She looked so beautiful going off to skating competitions and I'm sure a part of me wanted to follow in her footsteps.

Last lucky

To all those people - young, old, male and female - who have shoved me out of the way in their desperation to be first in the MTR/out of the plane/onto the bus/onto the escalator/onto the footpath in Central/just about anywhere - you're not going to win any beauty contests.

Nor American Idol. Nor any singing contests. Not gymnastics. Not even a stylish walking competition.

Born to skate

Nicole Fron loves the sound of skates gliding over hard ice.

It is a sound she hears almost every day, as she is one of the lucky people who have been able to turn a hobby into a job - and a dream job at that - as principal skater in the Disney On Ice production Beauty and The Beast.

An objective look at male sex appeal

When I was a kid in England we looked forward to one important television landmark in the week: the professional wrestling.

This was considered so disreputable that it was only allowed airtime late at night. Later, if I remember correctly, it was moved to Saturday afternoons, filling the long gap between the soccer news and start of the match results.
