Patrick Kane scored two goals and Corey Crawford made 24 saves as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins 3-1 on Saturday to take a 3-2 lead in the Stanley Cup finals.

The Chicago Blackhawks pushed Stanley Cup champions the Los Angeles Kings to the brink of elimination from the Western Conference finals with a thrilling 3-2 victory in game four.

Top-seeded Chicago twice trailed in a high-energy encounter of hard hits at Staples Center before taking the lead for good when right wing Marian Hossa scored with a slapshot early in the third period.

Patrice Bergeron's goal with 4:41 remaining in the second overtime lifted the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh and within one win of reaching the NHL's Stanley Cup finals.

The hulking behemoths in the NFL can only play one game a week because the intensity and ferocity of their physical collisions dictates they need sufficient rest to recoup. But heavily padded and protected as they may be, none of their bone-jarring impacts occur when they are moving at about 60 kilometres per hour, the average speed of a hockey player in full stride.
