Blues bite back to keep series against Sharks alive

THE NHL's regular-season champions are alive in the playoffs, thanks to big games from their biggest names.

Chris Pronger snapped a third-period tie with a power-play goal and Al MacInnis and Pierre Turgeon also played pivotal roles as the St Louis Blues staved off elimination with a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks in their Western Conference first-round series.

Sharks in swim with home win over Blues

The San Jose Sharks finally turned their home ice into an advantage.

Owen Nolan scored twice and the Sharks broke a four-game home losing streak in the NHL playoffs, defeating the top-seeded St Louis Blues, 2-1, to take a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.

A troubling trend is about to send the New York Rangers to an all too familiar place - home for the playoffs.

Solid Salo stymies Hurricanes

TOMMY Salo, expected to start in goal for Sweden's ice hockey team at the Olympics in two weeks, made 32 saves for his fourth shutout of the season as the New York Islanders blanked the Carolina Hurricanes 2-0.

Paul Kruse and Robert Reichel scored for the Isles, who posted consecutive wins for the first time in six weeks.

Cafe dish out hell for Devils

Paul Luciw scored a natural hat-trick in under four minutes as LA Cafe defeated Distacom Devils 7-4 in South China League action.

Luciw's three goals were all scored in the final minutes of the game at the Dragon Centre mall in Shamshuipo.
