Star Alliance

Founded in 1997, Frankfurt-based Star Alliance is the world's first global airline alliance. As of September 2012, full members comprised Adria Airways, Aegea Airlines, Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airlines, Asiana Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Avianca, Blue 1, Brussels Airlines, Copa, Croatia Airlines, Egyptair, Ethiopian Airlines, LOT Polish, Lufthansa, Scandianavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, South African Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, TACA Airlines, TAM Airlines, TAP Portugal, Thai Airways International, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways.

Air China flight to New York turns back to Beijing after 'threat'

An Air China flight bound for New York was forced to return to Beijing more than three hours into its journey yesterday after a "threatening message" was received, the airline and state media said.

Frankfurt sees air-cargo revival

Cargo traffic through Frankfurt Airport rose 5.4 per cent in January to 99,698 tonnes and 3.6 per cent in February to 105,774 tonnes, for cumulative two-month growth of 4.5 per cent to 205,472 tonnes.

A World Airport Week report said it compared with a 2.9 per cent fall in volumes to 1.3 million tonnes last year.

Shanghai plans to buy Boeings

SHANGHAI Airlines, the regional carrier owned by China's biggest municipality, plans to acquire 15 Boeing airliners by 2000, the New China News Agency said yesterday.

A consortium made up of six Shanghai banks extended a US$22 million loan on Thursday for the purchase of the US-built jets, the state-run news agency said.
