Manning quick to bounce back

IRISH newcomer Kevin Manning shrugged off early disappointment to produce an aggressive display on lowly-rated Noble Regent (10-1) and notch a debut winner at Sha Tin.

Manning, stable jockey to Stephen S. L. Leung, was on 3-1 favourite Gotcha in the first race of the new season when the gelding reared up, backed out of the gates and was eventually withdrawn.

The former Melbourne champion was seen to advantage again on Sunday when piloting previously disappointing Determinater to victory for Leung who makes no secret of his admiration for the Australian.
