Barrister fined for possessing steroids

A Canadian barrister has been fined HK$3,000 for possessing illegal steroids. Mark Sullivan, 29, who is practising in Hong Kong, was found to have 200 tablets of anabolic steroids in his flat that could only be prescribed by registered pharmacists. He pleaded guilty yesterday in Eastern Court before Deputy Magistrate Winston Leung Wing-chung.

Trainer Ricky Yiu Poon-fie was yesterday fined HK$50,000 by stipendiary stewards at the end of an inquiry into how Rely On Me had been entered to race on March 24 with greater than the accepted threshold levels of testosterone in his bloodstream.

Limit dietary cholesterol

WITH regard to Mr Tom Turk's letter headlined, 'Studies give eggs all-clear' (South China Morning Post, September 28), the Consumer Council would like to advise consumers that they should follow the recommendation of major health organisations to moderate their intake of eggs, particularly if their blood-cholesterol level is elevated.

A TWO-day exhibition to raise awareness of cholesterol opened in Sha Tin yesterday with the public getting free cholesterol screening and blood pressure tests. Cardiologists said the first-of-its-kind exhibition came at a time when Hong Kong had a growing cholesterol problem.
