Club set to confirm Kelly as Stier's successor in chief stipe hot-seat

The Jockey Club will declare 'weighed in' today on the two of hottest favourites in racing - that Kim Kelly will take over from the departing Jamie Stier as chief steward and Sydney-based steward Steve Railton will take up the vacant position on the panel for next season.

They are expected to be formally recorded today when the club holds its post-season media briefing.

Stier's sudden departure is all part and parcel of game

Last Saturday's announcement that Jamie Stier would step down as chief stipendiary steward at the end of the season was sudden and relatively unexpected. We say relatively, because Stier has been here for 11 years and it's never a complete surprise if an expatriate chooses to go home after a decade of service.
