Whyte has it all sewn up

South African rider Douglas Whyte turned up a double and the flame to white hot yesterday in the battle for a third successive jockeys' championship.

With main rival Shane Dye again winless, Whyte has drawn 14 wins clear at the top of the ladder with only 12 meetings to run and the New Zealander's task is looking highly improbable, if not yet impossible.

Champion jockey Douglas Whyte paved the way for a quick return to the winner's stall for the talented Blue Stitch yesterday when the gelding made it two in a week in the eighth event. Trainer Tony Millard (left) said he had no hesitation in running Blue Stitch again so soon after the soft win he had enjoyed in his last start.
