The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) set up its Cat Colony Care Programme in 2000. The method behind its attempts to stabilise and reduce the number of stray and feral cats involves three steps: trap, neuter and release.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been accused of being overly zealous in trying to control the feral cat population - its vets apparently tried to neuter the same stray twice.

Study may prompt claws for complaint

Now we know why there is so much affinity between humans and cats: we are both mass killers. Next to us, it seems, those fluffy, cuddly kitties may be the greatest threat to mammalian and avian wildlife. That is at least according to a widely reported study in Nature Communications, part of the prestigious science journal's family of publications.

Police animal abuse squad urged after cats slaughtered in Sham Shui Po

Pressure is mounting on the government to set up a police squad to investigate animal abuse after two more stray cats were found killed in Sham Shui Po yesterday.

One of the cats showed signs of having been tortured.

It was the second such incident in less than a month. A stray cat was so badly tortured in Sau Mau Ping on November 16 that vets had to put it down.

What? HKCSA is a group established on the internet in 1997 by enthusiastic cat lovers to promote the welfare of stray, abandoned and abused cats.

It became a registered charity in 1999. Volunteers carry out the rescuing, re-homing, caring and fostering of cats.

Hong Kong Alley Cat Watch is holding a party, Glamour Puss II, on June 21 at Club 97 and it promises to be an exciting evening, with dancers and auctions.

Stray-cat feeders face prosecution

Supporters of an SPCA proposal to save a stray cat colony in Victoria Park have not only had the plan rejected by officials - they have been warned they face prosecution if they continue feeding the felines.
