Strickland leads Winnerway to title

American Wayman Strickland can lay claim to being the undisputed top player in the history of the Super Commercial Cup after celebrating his sixth straight title at the event yesterday.

Strickland also received his fourth MVP award after leading Winnerway to a one-sided, 95-74 triumph against Winling in front of about 2,000 spectators at Southorn Stadium.

Strickland saved by economical release

Spare a thought for Hongkong Bank chairman John Strickland. He has been having a pretty tough time this week trying to work out the difference between US$1.8 billion and $2.5 billion.

Mr Strickland was not mincing his words on Wednesday, telling a press briefing that the HSBC Group has a $2.5 billion exposure to the troubled Indonesian market.

HSBC in US$2.5b Indonesia exposure

Hongkong Bank chairman John Strickland yesterday revealed the HSBC group has a US$2.5 billion exposure to Indonesia, and that he expects bad and doubtful debts to rise.

Mr Strickland said he believed this was the highest level of any local bank but emphasised his bank was taking steps to ensure its debts would be recovered.

AT the end of it all, Wayman Strickland was pleased. Not only did he lead his team to a third straight local basketball title, he was voted Most Valuable Player for the third year in a row after leading Winling to a 91-81 victory over Seapower to win the Henderson Cup.
