Options lose appeal as share price nosedives

None of China Mobile's directors and employees exercised share options last year, as the poor sentiment affecting the industry hit the company's share price, according to its annual report. Shares in China Mobile have fallen 71.3 per cent from the peak of HK$80 in March 6, 2000, to Friday's closing price of HK$24.35.

Former China Mobile executive may gain $147m profit

China Mobile's former executive vice-president Li Ping may have made a hefty profit of HK$147.06 million by exercising a total of 3.8 million share options last year, according to its annual report.

During last year, Mr Li exercised his entire 3.8 million China Mobile share options worth a total of HK$76.34 million before he resigned from the company in August.

Star Telecom grants options

Star Telecom International Holdings has granted call options to four investors to purchase up to 30 million existing shares in Tricom Holdings at an exercise price of $2.20 each to repay bank borrowings and use as working capital. If the options are exercised the Star group's holding in Tricom will fall to 58.76 per cent from 71.77 per cent.
