Mansion zoned for preservation

The defaced King Yin Lei mansion in Stubbs Road was zoned for historic conservation yesterday. The Town Planning Board zoned the site as a 'historical building preserved for cultural, community and commercial uses'. It was originally zoned residential. A residential development proposed by its owner would be moved to a neighbouring slope, the Development Bureau said.

Leadership, and a miracle, needed to save mansion

The bid to save the mansion at 45 Stubbs Road from demolition might look unrealistic at the moment, but so did the efforts to save Kam Tong Hall in Mid-Levels - until the government stepped in and negotiated with its owners.

Q Should the Stubbs Road mansion be declared a monument?

The mansion at 45 Stubbs Road is unique in both architectural and historical terms. How ironic that just when the Home Affairs Bureau (HAB) is undertaking public consultation on heritage conservation that this magnificent private building and the public Wan Chai market are both under threat.

Worker injured by printer

A worker had to be freed by firefighters after getting his left hand trapped in a printing machine in an office in Stubbs Road, Wan Chai. Police said the accident happened when the man, 38, was cleaning the machine. He suffered serious hand injuries and was stable in Eastern Hospital.

Crash-site house to be razed

Buildings officials began demolishing a two-storey house in Village Terrace, Happy Valley, after the remains of a garbage truck that crashed into it on Sunday were removed. Two men died in the truck when it skidded off Stubbs Road and slid about 100 metres down a slope.
