It was a typical British tabloid splash - the news that the entertainer Rolf Harris was arrested on suspicion of sex offences - but the headline emblazoned across The Sun's front page on Friday was also a pre-emptive strike in a fresh freedom-of-speech battle between newspapers and lawyers to the famous and powerful.

A former policeman and a prison officer were jailed yesterday for selling information to Britain's top-selling newspaper The Sun. Ex-constable Alan Tierney and Richard Trunkfield, who worked at a high security prison, were jailed for 10 months and 16 months respectively by a judge at England's Old Bailey central criminal court in London.

Actress Kate Winslet's new husband, Ned Rocknroll, has won a British high court bid to prevent The Sun newspaper from publishing "embarrassing" pictures of him partly naked at a fancy dress party.
