If the mishmash which has been the BMW Derby field selection this year has suggested anything, it is that the Jockey Club might save a lot of pain and an equal amount of face with a later announcement of the runners.

After Sunny Ying's win, John Moore may have been wishing the Group One Hong Kong Derby runners were declared last night not last Wednesday. But if the Derby decisions were made after yesterday's meeting, his third stringer Albiceleste would be an unlikely starter after a disappointing run at Sha Tin.

Moore missed out with Dan Excel finishing second in the Centenary Vase, but he managed a double and was thrilled with the first-up run of BMW Hong Kong Derby hope Poetic Justice in the seventh race.
