Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner breaks sound barrier

Austrian daredevil Felix Baumgartner made a record-breaking leap from the edge of space, landing safely in the New Mexico desert after freefalling from more than 39 kilometres above the earth. The 43-year-old floated down to earth on a red and white parachute canopy, which he had opened after reaching speeds of 1,342km/h in freefall.

If the purpose of this collection of hits is to remind fans what has been thrown away in hopes of getting Oasis back in the studio, it could fail: to be comprehensive, the album has had to include some awful dross from Oasis' post-What's The Story catalogue.

Parcel force

Despite its slight appearance, the Parcel Table (above left) - designed by New Yorkers Jeannie Choe and Steven Tomlinson of The Design Can - can apparently bear 136kg. Better still is its (de)construction: the table, which costs US$161 (birch top) or US$184 (acrylic top), consists of four identical parts and one square surface, making it ideal for flat storage and shipping.

Concorde Crisis

NEW YORK (April 9): BRITAIN could withdraw from the Concorde project by midsummer and France could subsequently decide against carrying on alone, the New York Times said yesterday.

In an editorial, it said 'There are indications Britain will pull out of the project by mid-summer and France may decide against carrying on alone, once its presidential election is out of the way.
