Apology for fiasco at divorce hearing

A man sat outside court unaware a judge was granting his divorce and awarding custody of his daughter to his wife, because a clerk had not called his name.

The ombudsman, Andrew So Kwok-wing, said yesterday he was upholding the man's complaint against the Judiciary, which is to apologise for the blunder.

Court list testimony to the lengthy wait for justice

THE sheaf of papers hanging in the corridors of the Supreme Court bears silent testimony to the long wait for justice in Hong Kong.

This is what is known as the ''fixture list''. It comprises the names of the accused and the charges against them. It also specifies on what date they should appear in court.

Caught in limbo waiting for a date in court

IT WAS cold, wet and dark last Friday; and hardly any more welcoming in the lobby of the Supreme Court in Admiralty.

Ringed by the first-floor balustrade, the lobby was a place few appeared to want to be, once they had consulted the courts list.
