Ex-HKU surgery head guilty of misconduct

The former head of surgery at the University of Hong Kong has been found guilty of misconduct and false accounting involving more than HK$3 million after he used university funds to pay his domestic helper and failed to report theft by a subordinate.

March verdict for ex-HKU surgery head

The District Court will hand down its verdict in March on a former University of Hong Kong head of surgery accused of misconduct and other offences.

John Wong, 71, is facing two counts of misconduct in a public office and two of false accounting. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and has been facing trial.

Four months' jail for acid attack

A man who threw acid at two renovation workers repairing a canopy outside his flat was jailed for four months yesterday. Peter Shu, 33, pleaded guilty to two counts of throwing corrosive fluid with intent on October 10 last year. He said he did so after the workers ignored his request for them to leave.

Pyramid schemers go back to prison

Two fraudsters who had already served a jail term for running a pyramid scheme were back behind bars last night after being found guilty of a similar offence.

Yu King-man, 41, and Leung Fung-yan, 29, were jailed for three years with a co-defendant, Chan Ching-chung, 47. Judge Susana D'Almada Remedios convicted them on one count of conspiracy to defraud.
