Italian food master makes sure delectable Swank menu is in vogue

Chef Michele Senigaglia of Italian restaurant Spasso usually sources inspiration from cook books when designing a new menu. But for the menu he created for local fashion retailer The Swank, he looked in the women's magazines corner.

In Monday's story on The Swank's fashion show and dinner, we mistakenly attributed some Valentine's Day comments to Italian Trade Commissioner Romano Baruzzi, when in fact it was the Italian consul general, Alessandro De Pedys, who made the chivalrous gesture of calling his wife, sitting next to him, 'the most beautiful woman in the world'.

The Swank Shop goes for new catwalk star

It seems Asia's next top model is in town today. High-end fashion retailer The Swank Shop is shooting its new spring-summer adverts and product shots this afternoon in a warehouse in Chai Wan, featuring one of Asia's new modelling sensations - Gwen Loo.

Men can add a new destination to their local shopping lists. The Swank Menswear flagship store recently opened in Kowloon, showcasing the latest collections in a gallery-like space. Highlights among the autumn lines include that from Emanuel Ungaro, which features tiger prints throughout the range, including a black shirt (far right; HK$1,195) matched with white trousers.

Designer Herve Leroux has drawn his inspiration for Guy Laroche's spring/summer collection from stylish women of influence. Combining a 1960s mood with the energy of today's woman, his silhouettes are graphic with clean-cut shapes. The collection features timeless pieces in silk, linen, chiffon, shantung and taffeta.

A swank summer parade

The Swank Shop held its spring/summer 2000 fashion show at its Landmark store, where an enthusiastic crowd admired the colourful and retro-look of the clothes.

More than 20 designers took part in the show and over 100 outfits were paraded by models who danced their way around the audience for the finale.

A CHUNK of the front section of the new-look Joyce on Nathan Road has been taken over by goodies from Emporio Armani, following the store's relocation from the Sheraton Hotel. There was an opening shindig yesterday afternoon, during which the label's new perfume was also launched. The fragrance is called 'He' and 'She' - in seven languages.

Swank wins vote from lenders

Swank International Manufacturing Co has received a majority vote from lenders to extend its standstill arrangements until June this year. Among 42 lenders, 41 have given written consent to the requested extension. The one lender which did not give consent is awaiting approval from its head office.

Lam quits as chairman of ailing Swank

The top shareholder behind troubled Swank International Manufacturing has quit as chairman.

Lam Yin-san, whose family holds 42 per cent of Swank, has decided to step down but will stay on as an executive director for marketing and sales.

He is being succeeded by G.C. Dobby.

Bad debts see Swank suffer $564m losses

Beleaguered Swank International Manufacturing has suffered net losses amounting to $564.3 million for the year to December after making huge provisions for bad debts and inventories.

The losses, which follow exceptional losses of $495.9 million, are a stark contrast to the $48.7 million profit earned the previous year. In 1995, exceptional losses were only $4.1 million.
