Fashion chain pulls 'Nazi' bags after complaints

A fashion chain has removed bags with a Nazi-themed design from its shelves after complaints from South China Morning Post readers.

The bags, bearing an image of a second world war German soldier, have been on the shelves of the Paradise chain of shops since last month.

There is something about Hong Kong's love affair with Nazi symbols. Many low-rent malls in Mongkok and Causeway Bay have small shops that sell swastika banners, German army insignia, Nazi toy soldiers and Third Reich uniforms and paraphernalia of all sorts.

Offensive art for controversy's sake

I refer to the recent article on the so-called 'art group' Zuni Icosahedron and the actions of its director Danny Yung to attempt to import Nazi swastika symbols into Germany as part of The Festival Of Vision, Hong Kong-Berlin. It should be remembered that Yung was not bringing in one or two swastikas, he was bringing in 2,000 and each of these was a metre high.
