Resorts decry spring water testing rules

Beijing's hot spring resort operators fought back yesterday against city health officials' claims that more than 70 per cent of the city's resorts failed hygiene tests, saying it was not fair to test the water using swimming pool standards.

Overuse of chlorine a threat to pool users

Excessive use of chlorine in public swimming pools may expose swimmers, especially children, to dangerous chemical byproducts, a group warned yesterday.

The newly formed Concern Group for Swimming Pool Water Quality in Hong Kong demanded the authorities adopt standards set by the Fina, a leading world aquatic sports body, to govern chlorine levels in public pools.

Hygiene rules

I refer to the letter headlined, 'Pristine pools' (South China Morning Post, April 10) and would like to respond in respect of public swimming pools managed by the Provisional Regional Council.

The Public Swimming Pools (Regional Council) By-laws prohibit a person with communicable disease from entering a public swimming pool.

Chlorine leak

POLICE cordoned off streets around the Kennedy Town public swimming pool in Smithfield Road, Western, while firemen tried to locate the source of a chlorine leak. It was found to be a pipe in the chlorine store room.
