Swissair flights ready for takeoff

All Swissair flights in and out of Hong Kong with the exception of the one to Manila will resume today after the Swiss Government bailed out the airline. Two hundred Hong Kong tourists in Europe and 400 travellers in the SAR were stranded by Swissair's decision to ground its fleet on Wednesday.

Private Air

A little-known European airline has come to the rescue of Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres, after his national airline said it could not provide a plane for his visit to Macau on April 17. Swissair subsidiary Private Air has agreed to provide a long-haul aircraft for the trip.

Export growth doubles two-way airline traffic

TRAFFIC between Switzerland and Hong Kong has doubled in the past five years, says Juerg Mueller, Swissair's passenger sales manager in the territory.

As Hong Kong's importance as a big re-exporting centre increases, travel and traffic between the two is expected to increase further.

Paint job for Swissair

SWISSAIR is to introduce a new livery for its aircraft fleet starting at the end of the month.

The present two-tone brown line will be replaced with a colour scheme based on red, white and grey. The Swissair logo and Swiss cross-tail fin remain the focal points of the new design.

Daido plans Swiss issue

DAIDO Concrete is to issue up to 17 million Swiss francs (about HK$87.6 million) of bearer notes, convertible into shares from January 4, to Swiss investors.

The manufacturer and seller of concrete piles yesterday said it had agreed on the note issue in principle with Nomura Bank (Switzerland), which would be the underwriter.
