Electronic calling card cuts bill size

BACK in 1987, when the birds were still singing - and Cable and Wireless was so secure in its franchise it could say such things - company barkers used to claim it was cheaper to call New York than for New York to call Hong Kong.

What they did not say was that it was only cheaper if your calls were only three minutes or so.

Changchun in phone deal

THE Changchun City Post and Telecommunications Office in Jilin province has signed a contract for 160,000 lines of digital telephone switching equipment with AT & T Qingdao Telecommunications Equipment. The price was not disclosed.

This is the second agreement between AT & T and Changchun following a US$4.3 million deal last year for switching equipment.

S. MEGGA International has finalised a joint-venture deal with American giant AT & T to market, distribute and sell AT & T-branded products in the Asia-Pacific region.

AT & T's Global Network Management Centres (GNMCs) manage worldwide networks for multi-national corporations. GNMCs are now located in North America, Europe and Singapore.

GNMCs are networked to share information and resources. They are strategically located near major business centres and provide worldwide coverage.

AT & T lands Hainan deal

AT & T China has secured its first major contract for switching equipment worth US$12.4 million from the Hainan Posts and Telecommunications Bureau.

The company will supply the province with a new switching network, which will connect 13 of Hainan's 15 counties.
