A man leapt to his death after killing his wife at home in Sai Wan Ho yesterday in the second family murder-suicide in four days.

It prompted the Social Welfare Department to appeal to people with personal or family problems to seek professional help.

Woman tries to kill son, then take her own life

A divorced mother with a history of depression was in serious condition in hospital last night after she tried to kill herself and her son in their Tai Po home, police said.

Initial investigations revealed the woman, 46, may have given the boy, 12, her only child, sleeping pills before setting alight a basin full of charcoal in a bid to kill them both.

Legendary voice coach Tai Sze-chung, dubbed the 'godfather of the music scene', died yesterday, aged 69.

A tutor to superstars in Hong Kong, Tai was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital early on Saturday morning after suffering a heart attack at his North Point home.

Minor injuries after joss stick starts blaze

A joss stick started a fire in a public housing flat in Tai Po yesterday that sent two women to hospital. About 350 residents were evacuated when the 23rd-floor flat in Hei Wo House, Tai Wo Estate, burst into flames at about 8.40am. Firefighters doused the fire at about 9.15am. The women, aged 46 and 71, were treated for minor injuries at Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital.

A 36-year-old man jumped to his death at Tai Yuen Estate, Tai Po. Inquiries revealed the man had a history of mental illness. A suicide note was found and police said the case was not suspicious.

Quarrel over rubbish bin ends in court

A dispute between two neighbours over a rubbish bin has ended in court after it escalated into a series of threats and harassment.

In a High Court writ filed on Tuesday, Lee Man-kit is seeking an injunction to restrain his neighbour, Tai Wai-wah, from continuing what he claims is a campaign to disturb and intimidate the Lee family in Sunlight Garden, San Uk Ka, in Tai Po.
