Cameron urges overseas tax havens to help fight levy evasion

British Prime Minister David Cameron wrote to the leaders of overseas tax havens yesterday, urging them to help Britain's efforts to fight tax evasion and avoidance. Cameron sent a letter to 10 British crown dependencies and overseas territories regarding the "critical" issues of tax information exchange and beneficial ownership, a practice which uses a nominal third-party resident in a low-tax state to shield income from taxation.

Offshore tax havens like Hong Kong contribute to poverty, says ActionAid

The widespread use of offshore tax havens such as Hong Kong by nearly all 100 of the largest British-listed companies, including HSBC and Standard Chartered, may contribute to world poverty and raise the risk of tax evasion, says British charity ActionAid.

BVI tax haven to set up Asia headquarters in Hong Kong

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) will set up its Asian headquarters in Hong Kong next month despite a worldwide outcry against tax havens after many of its rich clients’ information has been leaked by an investigative journalist group.
