Sale of Shaw's TVB stake cleared

The HK$6.26 billion acquisition of media mogul Run Run Shaw's stake in Television Broadcasts by an investor group was completed yesterday.

In a filing with the Hong Kong stock exchange, TVB said it had appointed three new directors to represent the investor group after obtaining the Broadcasting Authority's approval for the change in shareholding.

TVB boosts profit 48pc to HK$1.3b

Television Broadcasts, the top free-to-air terrestrial television broadcaster in Hong Kong, saw its net profit rise 48 per cent last year as revenue grew from all its major business segments, including advertising and programme licensing. The company posted a net profit of HK$1.33 billion, up from HK$900 million in 2009.

TVB gets mainland play

A subsidiary of Television Broadcasts (TVB) has appointed China International Television as its exclusive agent to distribute TVB8 Channel and Xing He Channel to three- to five-stars hotels and authorised commercial buildings in the mainland and also to sell and distribute receiver decoders to the authorised parties.

Undervalued TVB a long-term buy

BROKERAGE Merrill Lynch has rated shares in Television Broadcasts (TVB) as a good long-term buy, saying it is undervalued and should see a strong recovery later in the year.

TVB is the larger of two local broadcasters and operates two channels: TVB Jade in Chinese and TVB Pearl in English.

It also makes programmes and leases film studios.

Shaw may sell slice of TVB

SHAW Brothers (Hong Kong) is holding discussions with potential investors for a possible sale of some shares in Television Broadcasts (TVB).

TVB said preliminary discussions were taking place between Shaw Brothers and certain third parties who expressed an interest in acquiring a minor part of the Shaw Brothers' holding of shares in the television station.
