Critics go off the deep end over plan for swimming pool complex

A new indoor swimming pool complex proposed for Victoria Park yesterday drew fire from the harbour plan review subcommittee for being too big. Subcommittee members also suggested the complex's rooftop be used as a harbour-viewing platform for the public.

Lights system will be replaced

I refer to the letter headlined, 'Courts uneven and poorly lit' (South China Morning Post, June 4), concerning charges, lighting and the surface of tennis courts on Cheung Chau.

All Provisional Regional Council tennis courts adopt the same hire charges, irrespective of whether they are on Cheung Chau or in any other area.

Courts uneven and poorly lit

There is a great deal of room for improvement at the tennis courts in Cheung Chau.

These three courts comprise the only public tennis venue on the island. Players feel let down in a number of ways and feel that those people who are responsible for managing the courts are failing in their duties.

Courts appear overstaffed

I am sure there is more involved in the running of a tennis court than meets the eye.

However, surely having a staff of three just to take care of the administrative side of four tennis courts is a clear case of overstaffing.

Slight fee increase for hiring tennis courts

The Regional Council's Recreation and Culture Select Committee has approved a slight increase of fees for hiring the council's tennis courts.

However, the increase will only apply to 'peak hours' sessions. The hiring fees for 'non-peak hours' sessions will remain the same.
