Jail for ‘inept’ British thieves who lost Chinese artefacts

Two thieves who stole Chinese artefacts worth millions of pounds from a British museum and promptly lost them were handed lengthy jail sentences on Friday.

Thieves steal phone from actor Ha Yu's Sai Kung home

Thieves broke into former TVB actor Ha Yu's home in Sai Kung on Monday morning and escaped with just a mobile phone after Ha's son fought with one of them.

Two men, in their 20s, got into Ha's three-storey house in Ho Chung New Village about 4.30am and the noise woke his son, 23.

Thefts, deception cases on the rise in Central

Crime rose 13.5 per cent in the Central district in the first seven months of this year, compared with an overall increase of 1.7 per cent citywide, police revealed yesterday. Commissioner of Police Tang King-shing said 1,606 crimes were reported in Central, with thefts and deceptions pushing up the figure, while 47,000 crime reports were received in total.

Cheat's sentence cut by six months

The 30-month sentence of a man who cheated investors out of more than HK$1.26 million has been cut by six months. Au Wing-kun, 53, pleaded guilty in the District Court to four fraud counts and one of theft after taking money from four people and spending it.

Hit and run: sobhraj's deadly reputation

Sobhraj's alleged victims:

Thailand, 1975: Californian Jennifer Bolliver's body was washed ashore at Pattaya. A postmortem examination showed she had been forcibly drowned.

French tourist Charmayne Carrou was also found dead. She had been strangled until her neck broke.
