THE article headlined, 'More cash spent on Tibetan relics work' (South China Morning Post, September 6), reported official Chinese media claims that Tibet's cultural relics were damaged by Tibetan carelessness not Chinese soldiers. China admits many temples were 'defaced' during the Cultural Revolution of 1966-1976, but denies previous damage.

Beijing taking Tibet into its 'best period'

CHINA'S official media, in an apparent bid to rebut criticism of Beijing's treatment of Tibet, has praised the central Government for bringing the region into ''historically the best period'' and for its efforts to groom Tibetan students for the construction of the autonomous region.
