Public faces luck-of-the-draw ballot for Hong Kong Sevens tickets

A total of 4,000 public tickets will be distributed through a public ballot for which people can start registering from today.

Stung by widespread condemnation of online sales of Sevens tickets in recent years, a public ballot will be used to ensure everyone gets a "fair and equal chance" of getting one for next year's event.

Another Hong Kong Sevens has come and gone, but for all its enduring popularity the curse of touts and fake tickets proved worse then ever this year.

Now for the scalpers' next target: Lady Gaga shows

Lady Gaga fans who attended the recent Hong Kong Sevens are bound to see a few familiar faces at the pop diva's four gigs in the city next month - and that'll be the ticket touts outside the venue.

The 'Born This Way Ball' hits the AsiaWorld-Arena on May 2, 3, 5 and 7, the final show having been hastily arranged after a ticketing fiasco left fans in a rage at scalpers.

Fans hit by forged Sevens tickets

Scores of rugby Sevens fans missed the biggest party of the year yesterday after police and government authorities uncovered a large number of 'very well made'', locally-produced counterfeit tickets.

Touts threaten to spoil the party

There are so many things that remind me how old I am - like my knees, my back and my hairline. But these days perhaps nothing makes me feel my age quite like the Sevens. Yeah, I'm so damn old I remember when you could buy tickets to this thing. Twenty years ago it didn't even sell out and a few years later buying tickets morphed into an event.

We will see swift return of corruption if legislation curbing touts is scrapped

David M. Webb suggests that the legislation against the scalping of tickets should be rescinded ('Scalping already prohibited by law, but that provision should be abolished', March 16).

Regrettably he needs a lesson in Hong Kong's history about previously widespread corruption.

Scalping already prohibited by law, but that provision should be abolished

Your correspondent J. Ferencova calls for the outlawing of ticket resales at a profit ('It is time to outlaw ticket scalpers', March 8). Section 6 of the Places of Public Entertainment Ordinance already does so. It says: 'No person shall sell ... any ticket or voucher authorising ... admission to any place of public entertainment ...

Company is trying to stop touts from getting hold of concert tickets

HK Ticketing appreciates the views expressed by J. Ferencova ('It is time to outlaw ticket scalpers', March 8).

Our first objective is to maximise the availability of tickets at their original price to those people who genuinely want to attend the event.

Going Gaga

Normally I'm well-mannered but the Friday before last I lost control and let loose with the rudest Cantonese phrase I could think of. I had failed, for the third time in a row, to buy tickets for Lady Gaga's Hong Kong shows. I cursed concert promoter LiveNation, ticketing agency HK Ticketing and the scalpers who had prevented genuine fans like me from buying tickets.
