StarGrill

The family grill formula is one for which Hong Kong has an unstinting devotion and seemingly boundless appetite. This five-month-old establishment brings nothing new to the table, except maybe the cute paper stockade which keeps the sizzle at bay when the waiter pours your choice of sauce (which here includes wild honey, the obligatory black pepper or garlic) over the hotplate.

Flying double shows Sit on the up

RESURGENT apprentice Vincent S. K. Sit threatened to upstage his big-name colleagues with a dashing 459-1 double at Sha Tin yesterday.

The 22-year-old, who is attached to local mentor Francis K. W. Lui's stable, pulled off a coup aboard griffin debutant Splendid Patrol (27-1) in the opener, before running away with the top-class all-weather sprinter Flying Flying (17-1).

Unlikely double delight for Cruz

It would have been hard to find a broader grin on course yesterday than that on the face of battling local mentor Derek Cruz after banging home a stunning 2,418-1 double.

Cruz worked the magic with veteran galloper Health First (69-1) in the opener and completed the unlikely brace when Affaire D'Amour (39-1) made a winning debut in the Class Four minimum dash.

Kudos to trainer Yiu as losing run ends on the double

CRACK local mentor Ricky Yiu Poon-fai snapped a lengthy run of outs with a shrewd winning double at Sha Tin yesterday.

MILLARD AND BOSS MAKE POWER PAIR

A CONTENTIOUS sustained objection in the final event handed Club jockey Glen Boss a timely treble at yesterday's Happy Valley meeting.

All three victories were for the astute Tony Millard and, regrettably, the South African conditioner was not on course to celebrate his first three-timer under Hong Kong rules.

Yu joins big boys after double

Boom apprentice Alex Yu has arrived.

The question now is whether the talented youngster can hold his own in the senior ranks after outriding his claim on the back of yesterday's slashing 286-1 double.

Charming City keeps Hayes camp in the money

BRILLIANT youngster Charming City kept the David Hayes bandwagon rolling with an awesome demolition job of his rivals in yesterday's finale.

The Hayes camp pulled off one of the biggest plunges of the season at Happy Valley on Wednesday night when another of the young guns, Superior Dollar, got the nod in the tightest of photo-finishes to score.
