Seemed like a century as jockey completes nine-year wait for ton

After Jacky Tong Chi-kit rode his long-awaited 100th career winner yesterday one wag quipped 'that was the slowest century since Geoffrey Boycott opened the batting for England.' Tong rode his first winner for the late Ivan Allan in February 2003 and his progress towards three figures had been slowed further by injury - but a recent flurry of victories brought up his ton.

Six-year-old Gold Winner finally broke the ice at his fifth run for Danny Shum Chap-shing, who said the patience of the owners was the key factor with the gelding. Gold Winner had his first start in Class Two in March 2009, but injuries have kept his career down to 16 races and hampered his ability to show his true talent.

Tong sidelined for six meetings

Jacky Tong Chi-Kit was suspended for six meetings after chief steward Kim Kelly ruled he failed to ride debutant Impeccable out with 'sufficient vigour' in the concluding stages of the final race. Impeccable placed fourth and Tong will have six meetings on the sidelines as punishment for dropping his hands on the line. Tong will start his ban on December 5 and resume riding on December 28.

Caspar Fownes feared a John Moore whitewash yesterday so when the premiership pacesetter gained only a one-win advantage over him, Fownes was satisfied. Fownes took the final race with Horace's Choice (Jacky Tong Chi-kit) at odds of 27-1 and it was the only ray of light on an otherwise tough day at the office.
